The Basics of Astronomy

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

One of the most interesting subjects imaginable, knowledge of the science of Astronomy is something that all of us should possess. The basics of the science of astronomy can be easily understood and once you have grasped this knowledge you can carry out a lot of self reading on the subject to gain a deeper knowledge about the various facets of the science. In this article we are going to talk about the various basics of Astronomy.

Astronomy can be defined to be the science which deals with the matter of the earth, its neighboring planets, the environment and the mass which surrounds these as well as other studies that can be said to be a part of their periphery. However, if we really were to define the scope of the subject of Astronomy, it would encompass the entirety of the study of just about everything around us and our planet.

Whether is the study of the history of the creation of the universe, its neighbors, the substance by which it is formed, the mass of materials and gases which make up the planets and their satellites as well as the distances between them are all within the scope of the study of Astronomy and these are the basics which form the starting point of the study of many students of Astronomy. The science also deals with the various process that govern these celestial bodies, basic again which can be understood through various illustration, flow charts and miniature models by the students of the science.

The Activities of Wildlife Conservation

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Wildlife conservation is a delicate and complicated process, with dedicated teams trying to rebuild complex ecosystems, manage large wildlife populations, and protect these areas from harm. Many of the world’s most magnificent areas of natural beauty are under threat from humans, and conservationists work hard to preserve these places for future generations, and to restore damaged areas back to their former glory.

There’s been an increase in recent years in volunteer wildlife conservation, where people on gap years or career breaks volunteer to help work as conservationists for weeks, months, or even a whole year. Conservation practices vary from country to country and from habitat to habitat, but these are a few of the things you are could get involved in as a volunteer conservationist…

Tracking and Monitoring

Animal monitoring is one of the most important elements of wildlife conservation. Whether it is by electronic tracking or by human observation, animal numbers must be monitored so that their populations can be controlled. If the numbers of a particular species grow too large they could threaten other animals, and if they fall too low steps need to be taken to protect them. Following the movement and migration of animals also provides the chance to research their behaviour. Of course, for volunteers, the chance to observe animals like lions and elephants in their natural habitat can be an unforgettable experience!

Habitat and Reserve Maintenance

There are all kinds of efforts that must be made to maintain the habitats in a wildlife reserve. Rock erosion needs be monitored and countered, and any alien plants and animals which could be a threat to the reserve must be found and removed from the reserve. Many reserves rely on perimeter fences to prevent animals from moving out of the reserve (and to prevent unwanted visitors!), and these need to be checked on and repaired if they are damaged. This kind of work may not be the most exciting side of wildlife conservation, but it is just as essential as any other element.

Rehab and Veterinary Care

Out in the wild, sick and injured animals soon become victims of predators, or simple starvation. However, on a wildlife reserve dealing with endangered species or low populations, the loss of even a single animal can be a terrible setback. Wounded, sick, and poisoned animals can be captured and brought back to a veterinary centre to be treated, rehabilitated, and then reintroduced back into the wild, and this is often an important part of any wildlife conservation program.

Reserve Patrol

Wildlife reserves are fragile areas that need to be protected from humans. Some times, people cause damage unintentionally – tourists feeding animals without knowing that it is forbidden, or attempting to take out rare plants as souvenirs. Some times, of course, it is a deliberate effort, poachers being the most well known human threat that conservationists have to battle against. Most wildlife reserves are diligently patrolled to ensure that tourists and the local population are treating the environment with the respect and care that it deserves.

Medical Assistant Schools

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Medical Assistant Schools are there to help you become a professional Medical Assistant. It takes some research to find the best school for you. So here are a few good tips to help you get started.

First of all you need to look in your area. Get on the Internet and check out online to see if there are any Medical Assistant Schools in your local area. This is an ideal option because you still will be able to live at home while going to school without having to spend extra money for additional housing. Another good thing is that you might be able to go to school full time instead of part time if you can live at home with your family, supposedly totally free or at a lower rental payment.

If you cannot find a suitable school that is nearby, then try to look a bit further afield. In case if you will have to move anyway, then you may want to look for the best school that meets your requirements.

Also make sure to perform some online research to find out schools that have the best Medical Assistant programs available. Do you already know any Medical Assistants personally? If not, go to one of your local hospital or care giving facility and ask to interview a few of them working there. Ask them about where they received their training. Ask them if they liked the school program and what were their dislikes. Did they have a feeling like they were receiving proper training and that they were properly and professionally prepared for the job ahead? Did the school offer any job training? And so on. There are very many questions that need to be answered when you are looking for the best school for yourself. The best and simplest thing to do is find and ask someone else who already attended and graduated from the school you are considering at the moment.

Emergency Survival Kit

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Flash Flooding ; A serious flood can leave your family without power, clean water, and heat for hours or even days. This means everyone in your household will be cold and unable to eat or go to the bathroom. However, by investing in a simple survival kit your can keep your family safe during the storm with food rations, battery powered lights, and even a snap-on toilet seat attached to a bucket.

Snow-Ins ; As anyone who has every lived in a cold climate will tell you, snow-ins are a very real possibility in the middle of winter. Massive amounts of snow can block streets, and force you to stay in your home for long periods of time. In bad cases, snow can even lead to the loss of electricity in your home and surrounding neighborhood. If you live in a place with lots of snow, then a survival kit with food and first aid supplies is essential.

Flu Pandemic Protection; Over the past few years, the country has been worried about the H1N1 virus. This has caused a noticeable increase in the amount of Americans concerned about pandemic protection. If there were a major outbreak, then a flu safety kit could help your family stay safe. In addition to having supplies to avoid leaving your home for at least a week, you should be prepared with medications including fever and pain medicine, multivitamins, hydrating beverages such as Gatorade, garbage bags, soap, and other disinfection supplies.

Classroom Lockdowns; When there is a crime on school grounds, or a serious storm, students could be required to stay in their classrooms for hours without enough food, first aid supplies, or bathroom facilities. Since these lock downs can last anywhere from a few minutes, to a few days, it is a good idea to make sure your child’s classroom is properly equipped for an emergency.

Office Emergencies; It is an employers job to make sure that their employees are in a safe environment, and aware of first aid kits and emergency exits. However, in an emergency, sometimes aid is not readily available, or exit is not possible. Therefore, it is a good idea to have emergency kits with enough supplies to care for all employees at the office.

Earthquakes; Earthquakes are common in many places of the world, and tend to come at completely unexpected times, as the recent tragedy in Haiti has proven. While the severity of an earthquake can range anywhere from a harmless rumble to all out devastation, even the smallest earthquake could leave you unprepared in your home, car, or place of work. However, by investing in a 72 hour emergency kit you can rest assured that you and your family will be safe if a large earthquake ever hit your city.

Wildfires; Lately wildfires have become a serious problem, especially for Americans living on the west coast. However, there are ways to stay prepared. During fire season, you can turn your standard emergency kit into a wildfire protection kit by adding a few other supplies such as an axe, handsaw, hose, shovel, etc.

Medical Emergencies; A medical emergency could happen any time, anywhere. While calling 911 should always be your first step, there are instances where a phone or car is not readily available, or immediate attention is required. By keeping a few emergency kits – stocked with first aid supplies – in your home, office, and automobile you can help make the difference between life and death in a medical emergency.

About The Elemental Analysis

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

When an element is analyzed for its elemental properties it is known as Elemental Analysis. This is a process which uses a sample of material, and this sample is analyzed for its elemental and quite often its isotopic composition.

By using this process, the elements which are present can be determined; this is known as ‘qualitive’, and the process can also determine how much of each element is present and this is known as ‘quantitive’.

This is a part of analytical chemistry, and this means the set of instruments involved in deciphering the worlds chemical nature.

Organic chemists use elemental analysis, and for them this generally refers to CHNX analysis. CHNX analysis refers to determination of the percentage weights of;

• Hydrogen
• Carbon
• Halogens
• Nitrogen
• Heteroatoms

This type of information is very important and helps to determine the structures of compounds, and also to find out the purity and structure of a synthesized compound.

As mentioned before, ‘quantitive’ analysis is the determination of the quantity of each element present and some of the quantitive methods which are employed may be;

• Optical atomic spectroscopy (flame atomic absorption & graphite furnace atomic absorption).
• Gravimetry. ( a sample is dissolved and the element is precipitated )

Methods for Qualitative analysis can include;

• Sodium fusion test
• Mass spectrometric atomic spectroscopy
• Particle-induced-X-ray emission
• X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

The results of any analysis is carried out by determining the ratio of elements that are found in the sample, and then working out a chemical formula that fits with those results. Elemental analysis is extremely useful for determining the purity of a desired compound from within a sample.

Analyzing results can be very long and tedious and different tools have been specifically designed to carry out some processes, such as the Solvent Correction CHN Calculator, and the Chemical Composition Calculator.

Psychic Abilities

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Do you know that you are psychic? Yes everyone is psychic and has the ability to perceive and process knowledge acquired through experience or study. Indeed it is a fact that most of us are more psychic than we realize. The reason why most of us never recover these psychic ability and inborn gifts is that we are never trained as children how to put into effect these psychic muscles. It is only through conscious choice as adults interested in psychic abilities that we have the opportunity to recover and nurture these natural gifts.

Consider when you first learned to ride a bicycle you had to consciously focus on your balance. Once you learned how to balance and control your center of gravity this process was done without conscious thought. The information stored in your subconscious took over and told your body how to ride your bicycle without having to think about it.

If you look deeply into this elementary example, you will see two things that stand out and point to how to begin working with power of the subconscious mind.

However, in order to achieve greater psychic awareness and accuracy, you must first find out what your strongest gifts actually are. If you have the stereotyped view of psychics seeing and knowing all, you will be disappointed. It doesn’t work that way.

The chaotic thoughts and worries of daily life can drain your physical and mental energy. So, the first step to enhancing your brain power is to dump all that mental clutter.

The truth is that everyone has these abilities. We are all psychic. Some will be easier to master for some people than others. People with psychic gifts are not members of an elite group. The good news is that means with practice you can get better. The bad news is the only way to get better is to practice!

Become skilled at to be aware. If your five senses aren’t open and functioning correctly, there is no way that a 6th sense will. Learn to listen and see things. Start becoming aware of touch, taste, texture. Become an intentional sensualist. Test yourself. Get your friends to test you. Walk into an area and close your eyes. See how much of it you can describe. You’ll be surprised to learn out how much goes on around you that you never really see.
