Statistics prove year after year that an increasing number of American families are setting-up their own accredited home school. While raising my daughter, I never had the luxury of doing so, because I was a single parent, and had to leave the house to earn our keep. At one point, I did send her to a private school, but after about a semester, I took her out. We were living in southern Florida at the time, and although we lived in a very good area, I was wary about the Florida school system. So, I opted to try private school, but that too wasn’t the ideal situation for her or my pocket book. Perhaps, if I had known about the option of setting-up our own accredited home school, I may have tried to find other ways to support us and make it work.

I am only learning now that there are scholarships and grants available for parents who home school their children. It’s unlikely, however, that when she was of school age that any kind of financial aid was available. If you are in need of funding, you may want to begin by contacting the HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association), an organization dedicated to promoting homeschooling.

I think that if you are lucky to find other like-minded parents, it is a good idea to pool your resources with regards to finances, talent, and time. Ideally, if several families got together to home school their children under one umbrella accredited home school, the quality of education would greatly improve. Having the support of another adult is also better for the parent-child relationship, because realistically, you and your child may not always be on best of terms. When a child experiences firsthand how your ideas are similar to their schoolmate’s parent, s/he is more likely to be more cooperative with you.

On the other hand, if you are not an expert in every subject that your child must learn, it’s good to have a partner parent who can fill that void. For example, part of your child’s education should include the basics of home-economics, but in my case, my child would not get the best lessons if she was exclusively under my tutelage. However, another parent may excel in that area – or at least that would be the case with me. I have musical and artistic abilities, but I am certainly no Suzy Homemaker. I have the education and skills to give music and art lessons, but not baking or sewing lessons. I think that a child can come to resent the home school if s/he is not given the opportunity to work with skilled teachers, particularly when their own parent is lacking in knowledge, skill, or ability. Therefore, I am a proponent of farming out children to experts in their field when a parent is ill-equipped in certain areas. If, however, this is not possible, there is certain to be a DVD that you could borrow from the library or purchase where you and your child can learn together. As a matter of fact, learning together with your child may prove to be a very good educational experience for both of you. In this situation, you may take the role of student, and allow your child to assist you. This could prove to be a very rewarding experience, especially if your youngster needs a boost in self-esteem.

One of the downsides to having a single parent accredited home school is that your youngster is not given the opportunity to measure his or her abilities against another child’s and neither are you. A parent operating without the input of other parents and watching the development of other children has nothing in which to measure their own teaching skills, or their child’s abilities. This is not to say that I believe that all children must equally measure up to his or her cohorts’ abilities, but children do a tremendous amount of learning from each other. Without that social interaction, children have nothing in which to measure their own self-worth. Therefore, whenever possible, try to pool your resources with other parents who also home school their children.

Learning math skills can be frustrating and complicated for children. In order to make things easier, schools are using new programs to help children learn math in a fun and simple way, mimicking computer games.

School administrators are responsible for choosing the type of curriculum taught to children. As long as they are learning, the curriculum is considered effective. Using computer games as a tool is one option available to today’s schools.

There are both similarities and differences between the new computerized programs and the former method of writing in math workbooks, tearing out the pages and turning them in.

While the newer method does require computer access for every child, most schools now have that capability. As children do more hands-on learning on computers and less in books, these programs are capable of reaching them on a level they can understand.

For example, some programs use incentive tools similar to those found in video games. Each time a child completes a satisfactory score on a worksheet, the program congratulates them and gives them a score. With each level, the score increases. After a certain number of points, the student reaches a named level, such as captain or commodore.

At the end of all levels, children are greeted by a celebration and encouraged by a computer voice to change topics.

Some have a time limit to complete tasks, much like a game. If the math problems are not completed in time, a buzzer sounds indicating that they are out of time. This raises the competitive level from simply completing tasks to competing for how quickly they can do it, and do it correctly.

Elementary math is the building block on more complex topics that students must learn for the future. From simple addition and subtraction to telling time, it is a fundamental knowledge base used throughout life. Computers are also a basic fundamental building block for the future. Math programs integrate both.

School administrators, teachers and parents are also able to use the computer-based programs much like the former means of checking math worksheets on students’ homework.

Computer based math practice problems are helpful in training children how to use math skills in real life while still using tried and true methods of testing. As with the old-school techniques, modern math programs also use multiple choice, fill in the blank and true or false questions to quiz students.

The North Downs have more than one habitat. A lot of people don’t realize that because they’ve only visited part of it. However, by paying close attention and spending more time in that area of the country, it becomes much easier to see that there is a variety of wildlife to take note of. Because these environments are so different from one another, they can support all kinds of creatures and plant life. It makes the North Downs a fascinating place to visit and spend time examining. If you like nature, North Downs is the place to go.

Some of the most beautiful of the places available are woodlands. These cover a lot of the area, and they’re home to creatures and plants that you just might not see that many other places. Years ago, though, there was a lot more to the woodlands than there is now. Human clearing has removed a large number of trees, and they haven’t come back. They’ve been kept down by continued clearing and haven’t been given the opportunity to grow into large forests again. The areas that are still woodland, though, offer a lot of beautiful trees like oaks and chestnuts.

Most of the area today is grasslands, both chalk and otherwise. These grasslands are home to plants and animals that wouldn’t survive well in the woodland areas. The grasslands support a lot of insects like butterflies and dragonflies, and they’re a great sight to behold when walking or hiking in the region. Almost anyone who likes nature will appreciate what the grasslands of the North Downs have to offer, and that’s also true of people who enjoy studying specific plants and animals, of which there are many to be found.

The woodlands and grasslands aren’t the only options for habitats. There are also cliffs and other types of habitats there. The cliffs offer an opportunity for exposed chalk and plants that rarely grow anywhere else. This makes it a great place for people to study plants and animals that they just might not be able to find anywhere else. It can also make it very enjoyable for people who just enjoy nature, even if they don’t categorize it or study it to the extent that others do.

Because there are so many different habitats on the North Downs, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The flora and fauna that the area provides are worth study, and if it wasn’t for them, they might not be able to survive. The grasslands and the woodlands are the perfect places for plants and animals to thrive for years to come.

Science should even be cool for girls. A lot of girls shy away from science without realizing that chemistry and technology is the basis for many of the products they use on a daily basis – like lip gloss, cosmetics, cell phones and texting. A good science kit can help girls (and boys) realize that a lot of the day to day products they take for granted were created by scientists.

If you’re looking to get your daughter interested in science, consider some of the science in box products by the Scientific Explorer. These kits are developed in cooperation with notable universities and scientists around the country and provide clear and easy instructions on how to use them – plus an explanation of the science behind them.

Best of all, the manufacturer has several great kits which are geared towards girls. If you have a daughter who longs for a spa day, then get her the Spa Science Kit – she’ll get to make her own spa treatments by mixing (safe) chemical and ingredients. There are even bottles and labels so she can make her own products to give (or sell) to friends and family. The Spa Science Kit is super hands on and super fun and will make your daughter think in a whole different way about what is in her bottle of shampoo.

Of course, just because she’s a girl, doesn’t mean your daughter would only be interested in spa science – and that’s what’s great about the variety of science kits for kids that are on the market today. Your child might be interested in disgusting science – like the Disgusting Anatomy Brain or Disgusting Anatomy Heart kit, also from Scientific Explorer. Or perhaps your kids are interested in things that go boom and might want to check out a rocket building kit.

If your child is computer savvy or a tinkerer there are other great kits – like electricity kits and robot building kits that combine building and computer skills. These kits are a lot of fun and their hands-on nature allows kids to figure out things and build something they can keep.

Of course if your kids are into nature, there are many science kits that will help stoke their excitement with the natural world, from rock and gem stone kits, to ant farms, to butterfly habitats.

The world really is the limit with all of the high quality science kits that are out on the market today. By incorporating fun science projects into your kids life you will spark intellectual curiosity and continual thirst for knowledge – as well as reinforce basic and advance science principles.

The concept of “Long Distance Learning” is nothing new. All those who love watching old TV shows from the 50’s to the 70’s will usually come upon a comedy where one of the characters got a “degree” from some highly suspect-sounding institute of higher learning.

Actually, the business was quite legitimate. Back in 1958, the University of Wisconsin offered over 450 different courses, teaching 12,000 students annually, all done through the mail. Like modern online schools, it was a great way for working people, many then on the GI Bill, to improve their economic position.

It was the ARPA and its greatest creation, the Internet, which pushed colleges online. The net was created to pass information from one point to another, at the speed of light. The first organizations to jump on board, in fact did most of the primary research, were universities. Many of these institutes of higher learning had long distance learning wings. With the advent of the personal computer back in the early 80s, it didn’t take these ivory tower rocket scientists much to put it all together.

Move on into the 21st Century, and an online degree is becoming quite common, not the source of comedy routines. Reports show 67% of the students are women, primarily working mothers. Another growing sector are active military personnel, who want to continue their education while serving their country.

Where there were once only a handful of school, the number of accredited institutions has expanded to approximately 250. Some of the best material is now provided from the most amazing sources, such as the former member of Monty Python, John Cleese and his Video Arts studio.

Looking over the benefits it’s hard not to see why the number of students currently is in the tens of thousands. One can access many of the finest libraries in the world from the comfort of one’s home. Text books are online and constantly being updated and don’t wind up useless in two or three years. There can even be real-time communication between student and teacher. The Federal and state governments, as well as many other organizations have recognized online education since the 90s, and will even provide financial aid for needy students.

Teaching English for children is not always an easy task to be done, since there are several things people should know very well. The most important thing you must always remember is that children will like the fun learning very much. So, you are required to find the best creative ways to make them enjoy the lesson and finally be able to master the comprehensions perfectly.

In talking further about teaching English for children, people should remember that the fun learning can be achieved through simple activities. If you play football in the yard, you can introduce new vocabularies by mentioning the things inside the yard. You can tell them about the name of the things in English, including tree, cat, grass, ball, ground, and so on. What else? You can also introduce many things in English when you and your children going for vacation.

If you are a kindergarten teacher, you can apply such step to your little students. You can arrange an outdoor activity for them and bring them walking out to learn more about nature. They will see the road, farm, car, field, animals, and so on. And then, it will be great if you ask them to sing a song with you in English. Many teachers found this as an effective way to let the students get two things at once: knowledge and entertainment. It is fun and interesting.

In short, you should make everything fun. You can try from the things they always use and see everyday. So, it will be easy for them to memorize the words. Definitely, giving the regular practice is a great idea to consider. In fact, some people still do not know about such way to teach their children effectively. In this case, learning about languages is basically easy, as long as you have a great will to practice in a regular base.

However there is a lunar secret that is very important to take into consideration when your horoscope is being analyzed. When you look at the Moon to determine the mood of a person you have to look for the cycle the Moon were in at the time of the persons birth.

Was the Moon, New, Crescent, First Quarter, Gibbous, Full, Disseminating, Last Quarter, or Balsamic Moon. These are called “the Lunar Cycle” and they can help you understand the moods of a person. These lunar cycles represent subtle feminine energy and power in your chart.

By finding the placement of the Moon in your chart you will be able to clarify why a person may have certain moods and often get into similar situations without realizing why. For instance if your Moon were in the New Moon phase which last about three and a half days then your mood would generally be one of emergency.

The New Moon is for planting and creating. So the kind of mood for this person would be one of hopefulness for the future and generally perceive the world as a place of possibilities and a life of joy.

The next lunar cycle is The Crescent Moon and the person with the Moon in this position has a strong urge to overcome pressure and inertia of the karmic past and by working through these issues they often discover personal limits and their special purpose. This position is from three and a half to seven days after New Moon.

The Gibbous Moon phase is ten and a half to fourteen days after New Moon and with this position you have an intense energy of overcoming past and present issues. You believe that whatever decision have been made must now be lived with. This is a time of testing and adjustment, flexibility and perseverance are qualities that need to be nurtured.

Third Quarter or Full Moon is when it is opposite the Sun. This position has to do with your relationships of the heart, marriage and is a constant feeling of insecurity in which you may wonder if your partner is really happy with you. Learn to be happy within yourself and do not let your partner control your moods.

Next is the Disseminating phase which is three and a half to seven days after the Full Moon. This is a time where you begin to understand your inner struggle and are able to let go of them because you now understand what is underneath them.

The Last Quarter is seven to ten and a half days after full Moon. This position represents the harvest and meaning of understanding and whatever does not harmonize with the growing consciousness and understanding can not be accepted.

The last phase is the Balsamic which occurs during the final eight of the entire cycle ten and a half to fourteen days after the Full Moon. The general mood of this cycle is release and a period when emptying is necessary before a new cycle can begin. The Balsamic Moon people are old souls who have lived before and are here to complete and put into use those gifts they have already attained hence fulfilling a past vision.

The solution to a mathematical equation can be feasible or infeasible. There can be mathematical models with boundaries as well. Such models are termed as optimization models where the solution resides within a set of values. Usually such models are expressed with a set of constraints. For example, the classical functions of pricing the supply and demand for products, both these functions together create a fixed value for the price.

Here is a sample mathematical model

Objective: Maximize Profits from selling two products P1 and P2 at Price $3 and $4 respectively.

Constraint: Labor hours are limited to 40 per week. Product 1 takes 2 hours to produce and product 2 takes 3 hours to produce. (Per unit)

Maximize 3P1 + 4P2 — (1)

SUBJECT TO

2P1 + 3P2 < 40 — (2)

If you carefully notice the system of equations above, the first equation constantly increases for any value of P1 and P2. But the increase is restricted by equation number 2 which enforces a boundary on the system. Hence the solution set returns feasible values.

Equations can be both deterministic as well as stochastic. Stochastic systems are systems that do not have fixed values such as USD 3 as cost of product or labor hours as 2 hours per product. The expected values can be specified as a probability distribution. An Example of a probability distribution is the arrival rate of automobiles in a junction. One cannot determine the exact rate as the source would be dependant upon a lot of factors.

Simulation is an extended technique of analyzing variations of input and output using expected values for a large number of trials. Many contrasting system conditions can be specified and the simulation can be run for a large number of trials.

Math models are common place and are used to describe physical phenomena, astronomical phenomena and population growth. They are also used in production planning, manufacturing etc. In synopsis a mathematical model can create unbounded values or bounded values. A system with boundaries can be used to study extreme objectives such as profit maximization, time minimization etc.,

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a method for treating those people who have Bipolar Disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) that combines both traditional Western and non-traditional Eastern psychological concepts. The method was developed by University of Washington psychological researcher Marsha M. Linehan and she has experienced considerable success whenever implementing her plan of therapy.

Those with BPD have an extremely difficult time coping with any crises that may occur in their lives and they are also highly emotionally unstable. BPD is thus somewhat similar to Bipolar Disorder but the extremes of emotion experienced by BPD sufferers don’t usually last as long as those of manic-depressives. Linehan’s breakthrough came when she realized that BPD sufferers were all invalidated as children and that it is this self-destructive behavioral pattern that should be changed instead of the crises being removed.

There are two parts to DBT and both improve a patient’s mental health: group therapy and the one-on-one consultations between a BPD sufferer and their therapist. These methods are also used for bipolar patients. The group therapy sessions concentrate on teaching the patient four very specific skill sets, which are: core mindfulness skills, distress tolerance skills, emotion regulation skills and interpersonal effectiveness skills.

Mindfulness skills comprise the Eastern part of the therapy and pay homage to Buddhist Mindfulness Meditation techniques that teach people to calmly accept whatever happens to them without reacting emotionally to any crises. Distress tolerance skills are specifically aimed at changing behavior patterns for dealing with incidents that create stress, while emotion regulation skills help a patient control the level of their emotions by, for instance, identifying and labeling emotions and identifying obstacles that they put in the way of altering their emotions. Interpersonal effectiveness skills, on the other hand, include teaching patients when to resist changes they don’t want to happen and how to assert themselves.

The weekly individual therapy sessions put the skills learned in the group sessions to work by trying to change specific long-standing negative behavioral patterns, which behavioral patterns are always dealt with in the exact same order.

Given top priority are the parasuicidal – mild to extreme self-injury – and suicidal behavioral patterns and these are closely followed by the patterns that interfere with the patient’s therapy program and then with those that negatively impact on the patient’s quality of life. Patients are also given a chance to practice positive, life-affirming, behaviors including ways to improve their self respect and self-esteem, and ways to set and achieve their own goals.

DBT is a viable alternative to traditional ways of dealing with BPD and Bipolar Disorder by stressing crises management over self-improvement.

For telepathic communication there needs to be a sender, receiver, and message. No message can transfer from one mind to the other without being sent and being received. Each role is equally important.

Direct sending refers to sending a message directly to the mind of one person. The sender first mentally locates the intended receiver and then sends them a message. There are different ways to do this. One way is to repeat the receiver’s name mentally, over and over, while focusing on “finding” them mentally. Once they have been located, focus on the message and visualize it moving to the receiver and into their mind.

Broadcasting involves sending a message out to more than one person, maybe even a group of people. In certain ways this is easier for the sender, but can also be more difficult as the focus must be broader and involves more than one person. To broadcast a message, experienced senders can focus on each of the intended receivers, locating them mentally, than sending the message. The sender could also focus more clearly on their own mental location and message, making it easier for receivers to “find” them and their message

To directly receive a message, there must be an established connection. As the receiver, first become aware of the telepathic signals around you and begin to extend your consciousness outward. Notice when a message comes to you and focus on it and where it is coming from. After a while, you should be able to easily send out your consciousness into a “net” that can easily catch telepathic messages.

This is the easiest way to receive broadcast messages. For this, the receiver will need to extend their consciousness and locate the sender. Focus on them and “feel” around them to hear or see the message they are broadcasting. There may be noise surrounding them, but you will soon know the message that is being sent. Allow it in.

It is best to practice with someone or a group of people that have experience sending and receiving messages. Practice both sending and receiving, and don’t give up. Keep trying and try swapping partners if it is difficult. As soon as you figure out how to locate someone, focus, and extend your consciousness you will get better at it. An easy game at first is to send color/shape message. Focus on simple images and clearly think “blue” and “square” while projecting outwards.
